Court orders income tax file seizure of ex-lawmaker Rubina, husband
Bangla Press Desk: A Dhaka court on Sunday ordered the seizure of income tax records of former lawmaker Syeda Rubina Akter and her husband, Md Mosharraf Hossain Sardar, over graft allegations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz passed the order following two separate applications filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The applications stated that Rubina abused her power while in office and acquired and possessed assets worth Tk1.57 crore that were inconsistent with her known sources of income.
She is also accused of carrying out abnormal and suspicious transactions amounting to Tk139.35 crore through bank accounts in her own name and related interests.
Additionally, Mosharraf acquired assets worth Tk1.26 crore with the assistance of his wife, Rubina, and conducted abnormal and suspicious transactions totaling Tk18.44 crore through bank accounts in his own name and related interests.
The ACC sought the seizure of original copies of income tax returns and related records in the interest of a fair investigation, the applications said.
