Court orders probe into DU teacher Monami’s cyberbullying case
Bangla Press Desk: A Dhaka court on Tuesday ordered an investigation into a case filed by Dhaka University Assistant Proctor Shehreen Amin Bhuiyan Monami over the allegedly indecent distortion of her photo and its circulation on social media platforms.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Jonaid accepted the case and directed that the investigation report be submitted by 9 December.
Earlier, on 3 November, Monami, filed the case under the Cyber Security Act with Shahbagh Police Station, alleging that her photo had been seriously distorted and shared from multiple Facebook accounts, causing her humiliation and mental distress.
The accused are -- activist Mujtaba Khondaker, writer Mohiuddin Mohammad, Ashfaq Hossain Evan, and Dhaka College student Nirab Hossain, along with several unidentified individuals.
According to the case statement, the accused allegedly edited and posted a photo of Monami on Facebook in an indecent manner and made obscene comments, describing her as a “source of sexual fantasies.”
The complaint further stated that unidentified individuals continued to circulate edited versions of Monami’s photos from various Facebook accounts, accompanied by vulgar and defamatory remarks.
