Croes confident of Dutch fightback
Bangla Press Desk: Netherlands batter Noah Croes remains confident that his side can bounce back in the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, despite going 1-0 down. Speaking to reporters on Sunday ahead of the second T20I, the right-hander said the Dutch camp still carries strong belief after learning from their opening defeat. “We think the camp has really great belief, and as I said before, taking some really good lessons from last night and we really think our best cricket can stack up against Bangladesh. So, there is no reason why we can't get a series win,” Croes said. Bangladesh and the Netherlands have met six times in T20Is, with the Dutch winning only once—back in 2012. That was also the only time the two teams played a T20I series, which ended 1-1. Thirteen years later, Bangladesh have once again taken the lead, and in commanding fashion, after cruising to an eight-wicket victory with 39 balls to spare in the first match.
Croes credited Bangladesh’s bowlers for the result, rather than pointing to Dutch batting shortcomings. “Credit goes to the Bangladesh bowling. I think if they challenge us with something we can prepare for in those conditions, they’re very clear on their approach and know exactly what they want to do. For us as a batting group, it’s simply about executing our plans more effectively,” he added. The 25-year-old further stressed that the experience of playing against Bangladesh is invaluable for his side. “Experience is priceless. Having that as a reference point when facing players of such calibre puts us in a strong position to deliver a solid performance and showcase the skills we’ve been working hard to develop,” he said.
Bangladesh’s pace attack was the difference in the opening game. Taskin Ahmed claimed four wickets for 28 runs to earn the man-of-the-match award, while Mustafizur Rahman (4-0-19-1) and Shoriful Islam (4-1-30-0) offered excellent support with miserly spells. Croes acknowledged the challenge of facing such a versatile pace unit. “They’re top-quality bowlers, each bringing something different to the table. With their franchise experience, it’s been a great learning opportunity for us. That’s why we’re here training today—working on our plans—and it’s exciting to have another two chances to test ourselves against such a high-calibre attack,” he concluded. This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
