Death toll from Pak Punjab floods rises to 101
  Bangla Press Desk:  At least 101 people have died in the worst floods to hit Punjab in decades, Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director General Irfan Ali Kathia said on Saturday. Speaking to the media at the Commissioner’s Office in Bahawalpur, Kathia described the disaster as the largest in Punjab’s history, with nearly 5,000 villages inundated. He said the Sutlej River swelled to 385,000 cusecs this season, while three rivers in the province simultaneously faced high-level flooding. “The situation turned particularly alarming in Jalalpur Pirwala and nearby areas, where floodwaters severely affected local communities,” Kathia noted.
He said rescue and relief efforts are continuing, but the sheer scale of the disaster has placed immense pressure on resources. A high flood has been recorded in the River Chenab at Head Punjnad, where the flow has surged to 664,000 cusecs, while the Ravi at Head Sidhnai is seeing a medium flood with water levels now receding. The Sutlej at Ganda Singh Wala is in low flood, with the flow measured at 78,000 cusecs. Meanwhile, the Indus is in high flood at Guddu Barrage, where the flow has reached 537,000 cusecs.
Water levels are also rising downstream, with Sukkur Barrage recording an inflow of 460,000 cusecs and Kotri Barrage reporting a steady increase. Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited Kasur Sector and the Flood Relief Camp in Jalalpur Pirwala, Multan to review the prevailing flood situation and ongoing relief efforts, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said. The military's media wing said that army chief's visit to flood affected areas of Kasur and Multan focused on enhancing synergy between the civil administration and the military to ensure effective assistance for the affected population.
