Deepika praises ICC's maternity policy

Bangla Press Desk:   Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has praised the International Cricket Council's (ICC) new maternity guidelines for women cricketers. She described the initiative as a "game-changing and historic moment" for women in sports.
Currently, Deepika and Ranveer Singh are expecting their second child. The mother-to-be shared a news of the new ICC policy on her Instagram story to highlight its importance. The ICC has introduced this formal rule to ease the process of women cricketers returning to the game after becoming mothers during the 2026 Women's T20 World Cup.
The ICC said that this rule has been made so that a woman cricketer can easily return to the field after giving birth.
The main aspects of this new policy are medical and psychological care, personal rehabilitation plan, childcare and travel assistance, contract guarantee. Cricket officials say that the main aim of this initiative is that no female athlete should be forced to choose between becoming a mother and her career.
Deepika Padukone has always been vocal about making the workplace women-friendly and healthy. She has previously spoken out on issues like mental health of women in various professions, eight-hour working hours and family support.
Now, she has welcomed this initiative as women's rights are being ensured in the world of sports as well.
This framework, created by the ICC Medical Advisory Committee, is the first of its kind in the history of cricket. It will work in a total of six stages, which will help a player recover and gradually return to the main competition.
