Democratic practices will remain unchanged without political culture reform: Salahuddin
Bangla Press Desk:  BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has said that democratic practices in Bangladesh will remain the same unless the country’s political culture is reformed. He made the remarks on Saturday at a roundtable discussion titled “The Future of Democratic Bangladesh: People’s Thoughts and Expectations” held at a hotel in the capital’s Gulshan. Leaders from different political parties were present at the event. Emphasising the need for change, Salahuddin said, “I stress that if we do not reform our political culture, future democratic practice will remain as it is — which is not what we aspire to.”
He added that establishing people’s democratic rights is the BNP’s goal. “The state has been placed on track at the cost of much blood. Now it must be shaped within a constitutional and legal framework,” he said. Referring to the 2024 mass uprising, he said its aim was to ensure people’s rights. “National unity is essential on national issues, and the July movement has created that opportunity. Despite differences, this strength must be upheld,” Salahuddin noted. He further claimed that those demanding constitutional and other reforms immediately have “different motives.” This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
