Dengue: 7 more die, another 1,593 hospitalised

Bangla Press Desk:  Bangladesh has recorded seven more dengue deaths in a 24-hour count, alongside 1,593 hospitalisations across the country.

The government’s death toll has now reached 164 this year, including 67 deaths in September -- the highest monthly figure so far this year.

According to Tuesday’s Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) bulletin, between 8am Monday and 8am Tuesday, 171 patients were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka North and 132 in Dhaka South.

Outside the two city corporations, 383 were admitted elsewhere in Dhaka Division.

The figures for other divisions were 159 in Barishal, 165 in Chattogram, 290 in Khulna, 82 in Mymensingh, 137 in Rajshahi, 65 in Rangpur and nine in Sylhet.

Another 1,566 patients were discharged in the same 24-hour period.

This year, 55,163 dengue patients have been hospitalised and 50,941 discharged.

The health directorate has tracked dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000.

In 2023, 321,179 patients were hospitalised and 1,705 died -- the highest figures recorded. Last year, more than 400 died and about 102,000 were diagnosed.
