Dipu Moni on remand, Solaiman Selim shown arrested in July killing case

Bangla Press Desk:   A Dhaka court on Monday placed former education minister Dipu Moni on a four-day remand in a murder case filed with Shahbagh police station tied to the student-mass uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman passed the order after the investigating officer Mainul Islam Khan produced her before the court seeking a 10-day remand.

The case document states that Md Monir Hossain was shot dead during the anti-discrimination student movement at Chankharpul on 5 August last year. His wife, Rozina Akter, later filed a murder case accusing 351 individuals and 500 unidentified persons.

Meanwhile, the same court also ordered former lawmaker Solaiman Selim to be shown as arrested in the Shawon Sikder murder case during the July uprising.

According to the case statement, Shawon Sikder was shot and allegedly fired by the accused in front of Eden Mohila College. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. A case over the murder was filed at Lalbagh Police Station on 21 January.
