DNCC CEO transferred amid row with administrator
Bangla Press Desk: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Chief Executive Officer Abu Sayed Md Kamruzzaman has been transferred to the Department of Bangladesh Haor and Wetlands Development as the director general. The Ministry of Public Administration issued an order in this regard on Monday. Kamruzzaman took over as the DNCC CEO on 18 February. The transfer order came at a time when the CEO was reportedly on bad terms with DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz over leasing out the Gabtoli cattle market.
A team, led by Kamruzzaman and comprised of six divisional chiefs and an audit officer of the DNCC, evaluated the proposals from bidders over leasing the cattle market and recommended awarding a lease to the highest bidder. But the administrator cancelled the lease process, showing a flimsy pretext, and ordered direct revenue collection by DNCC employees. But later media reports revealed that men of the third-highest bidder were collecting revenue from the cattle market instead of DNCC employees. Following the issue, on 16 April, DNCC Chief Estate Officer Md Nuruzzaman and Chief Revenue Officer Md Moniruzzaman, who were the members of the evaluation committee, were also transferred and appointed as the director of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority and deputy secretary to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, respectively.
When asked about his transfer, outgoing CEO Kamruzzaman said it was part of the regular activities of the government. Source: DS [Bangla Press is a global platform for free thought.
