Drama is on behind scenes of Awami League ban: Mirza Abbas
Bangla Press Desk: BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas has said that a drama is going on behind the scenes of the banning of Awami League, a party that played a pivotal role during the country’s Liberation War in 1971. He also criticised the government for allowing the National Citizen Party (NCP) to stage demonstrations within the Dhaka Metropolitan Police announced restricted areas. While addressing a programme at the National Press Club in Dhaka, Abbas said deposed Sheikh Hasina used to stage such drama to divert people’s attention to another direction from an important issue. An unpopular political party is undermining the BNP, though it is not opposing the Awami League’s ban, he said, adding that those who have raised questions about the BNP opposing the Awami League ban are enemies of the nation and the countrymen.
Dismissing claims that BNP provides shelter to Awami League, Abbas said those alleging that his party wants to rehabilitate those who repressed the BNP men over the past 17 years are simply driven by jealousy. He alleged that his BNP is being eliminated from the administration and replaced by Awami-Jamaat supporters. “Many advisers are not even the country’s citizens running the state, which means colonial rule is going on here,” said the BNP leader.
