DSCC seeks approval of Tk43,630cr projects to curb traffic, waterlogging
  Bangla Press Desk:  Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has proposed six development projects worth Tk43,630 crore aimed at easing traffic congestion and addressing waterlogging in the capital. It is seeking government approval for the inclusion of these projects in the current fiscal year’s Annual Development Programme. According to DSCC documents, the proposals include infrastructure development, traffic signal installation, canal restoration and the construction of major roads and bus terminals. One project, costing Tk8,000 crore, aims to install traffic signals at road intersections across the city.
Two more projects, each estimated at Tk2,000 crore, have been proposed to develop Kanchpur Bus Terminal and a new terminal in the Baghair area of Kamrangirchar. DSCC has also sought approval of a Tk10,000 crore project to construct an inner circular road stretching from Lohar Bridge in Kamrangirchar to Postogola Bridge. This builds on a previously approved Tk9,740 crore project to develop the eight-lane section from Rayerbazar Beribadh to Lohar Bridge. To address waterlogging and protect water bodies, DSCC has proposed a Tk5,000 crore project for the restoration and preservation of the Old Buriganga Channel.
Another project, also estimated at Tk5,000 crore, aims to recover canals and enhance their surroundings as part of a second-phase beautification effort. Separately, the DSCC has already secured approval for a Tk998 crore project to develop four canals – Kalunagar, Shyampur, Manda and Jirani. DSCC Administrator Md Shahjahan Miah said the projects reflect the government’s commitment to resolving the capital’s longstanding traffic and drainage problems. The eight-lane expressway from Rayerbazar Beribadh to Lohar Bridge is under construction. Once the entire stretch from Postogola to Beribadh is completed, buses from 21 southern districts will be able to bypass central Dhaka, easing congestion in the city’s core areas, he added.
He also said that DSCC is working to restore the city’s canal networks to improve drainage and establish a sustainable “blue network”.
