Bangla Press Desk: A magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, India. The tremors were felt at 8:07 PM local time on Saturday (October 10). However, there have been no reports of casualties or property damage so far.
India's National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported that the earthquake struck at 8:07:30 PM local time. Its epicenter was located in the Uttarkashi area at a depth of 11 kilometers below the surface. The coordinates of the earthquake were 30.744° North latitude and 78.414° East longitude.
This was the second earthquake in Uttarakhand on Saturday. About four hours earlier, another earthquake measuring 2.8 on the Richter scale was felt in the state's Bageshwar district.
According to NCS data, the earthquake in Bageshwar struck at 3:40:53 PM local time. Its epicenter was five kilometers below the surface. The coordinates for that earthquake were 30.005° North latitude and 79.950° East longitude.
Meanwhile, on October 6, another earthquake measuring 4.9 struck the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand around 10:20 PM. Tremors from that quake were felt in India's capital, New Delhi, and surrounding areas, sparking panic in the capital and neighboring cities.
A user from Delhi's Safdarjung Enclave wrote on the social media platform X, "I saw my entire sofa move; the whole building shook. I have never experienced anything close to this in my life!" Source: NDTV
