EC accepts Nusrat's nomination, sets date for selection

Bangla Press Desk: Following the High Court's order, the Election Commission (EC) has accepted the nomination papers of Nusrat Tabassum, the candidate of the Jamaat-led alliance for the reserved women's seat of the 13th National Parliament.
This information was given in a notification signed by the Returning Officer and EC Joint Secretary Moin Uddin Khan on Wednesday (April 29).
The notification said that the selection process of the nomination papers of this candidate for the reserved women's seat will be held on May 2.
Earlier, on April 22, 19 minutes after the scheduled time (4:19 pm), NCP Joint Convener Nusrat Tabassum submitted her nomination form to the relevant branch of the EC. As the time passed, the Returning Officer did not accept it, which made her participation in the election uncertain. After that, she approached the High Court. On Monday (April 27), the court accepted her nomination papers and directed the EC to take legal action.
Meanwhile, in the election for reserved women seats, the EC has declared 36 candidates from the BNP alliance, 12 from the Jamaat alliance and one from the independent alliance elected unopposed as the number of candidates against the vacant seats was equal.
Out of the 49 candidates who were elected unopposed, those elected from the BNP are Selima Rahman, Shirin Sultana, Rasheda Begum Hira, Rehana Akhter Ranu, Newaz Halima Arli, Mosa. Farida Yasmin, Bilkis Islam, Sakila Farzana, Helen Zerin Khan, Nilofar Chowdhury Moni, Nipun Roy Chowdhury, Jiba Amina Khan, Mahmuda Habiba, Sabira Sultana, Sansila Zebrin, Sanjida Islam Tuli, Sultana Ahmed, Fahmida Haque, Anna Minaj, Suborna Sikder, Shamim Ara Begum Swapna, Shammi Akhter, Ferdousi Ahmed, Bitika Binte Hossain, Suraiya Zerin, Mansura Akhter, Zaharat Adib Chowdhury, Momtaz Alo, Fahima Nasrin, Arifa Sultana, Sanjida Yasmin, Nadia Pathan Papon, Shawkat Ara Akhter, Madhavi Marma, Selina Sultana and Rezeka Sultana.
In addition, Sultana Jasmine Jui has been elected from the independent alliance.
The elected members of the Jamaat alliance are - Nurunnisa Siddique, Marzia Begum, Sabikun Nahar Munni, Mardia Momtaz, Nazmun Nahar Nilu, Mahfuza Siddique, Sajeda Samad, Samsun Nahar, Mahmuda Alam Mitu, Tasmia Prodhan, Mahbuba Hakim and Rokeya Begum.
