Editors’ Council, NOAB to hold journalists’ conference in Dhaka on 17 Jan
Bangla Press Desk: The Editors’ Council and the Newspaper Owners’ Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) will jointly organise a journalists’ conference in the capital on 17 January.
The conference will be held at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) in Dhaka and will begin at 10am, with registration scheduled from 9am to 10am, organisers said.
According to the organisers, the conference aims to discuss the current state of democratic values, political developments and the challenges facing independent journalism in Bangladesh.
In an invitation message, they said democratic norms and press freedom in the country are under growing pressure. The conference will focus on analysing these developments and highlighting the role of responsible, objective and courageous journalism in safeguarding democracy.
The organisers said the event would also address issues related to journalists’ safety, professional dignity and rights, and the need to ensure a democratic and independent media environment.
Editors’ Council President Nurul Kabir and NOAB President A K Azad have urged journalists, editors and media professionals to attend the conference and contribute to collective efforts to uphold press freedom and accountability.
