Education Minister receives new responsibility

BanglaPress Desk: Education Minister A.N.M. Ehsanul Haque Milon has been appointed as a member of a high-level committee formed to re-evaluate the salary structure and various benefits of government employees. Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has been designated as the convener of this six-member committee.

The Cabinet Division has recently issued a notification in this regard, and an official gazette has also been published.

Other members of the committee include Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman, Minister for Health and Family Welfare Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain (Bokul), and State Minister for Public Administration and Food, Md. Abdul Bari.

According to the notification, the committee will review existing inconsistencies within the salary structure of government employees, as well as complaints raised regarding these issues. It will then submit necessary recommendations to the government to address these concerns.

Furthermore, the committee will examine the upgrading or downgrading of salary grades for government employees and work toward ensuring parity across different grades. It will also explore the possibility of introducing new risk allowances and other forms of benefits.
Additionally, the committee will assess whether the amounts of existing allowances provided to government employees should be increased or decreased, and will subsequently provide recommendations to the government.
The committee will be assisted in its operations by the Cabinet Secretary, the Principal Secretary (or a Secretary) to the Prime Minister, the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, the Secretary of the Finance Division, and secretaries from other relevant ministries and departments. Provisions have also been made to include additional members in the committee, should the need arise.

The notification further states that committee meetings will be held as required. The Finance Division will provide support for the committee’s official and secretarial functions.
