Environment for fair polls created in the country: Mirza Fakhrul

Bangla Press Desk:  BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said Bangladesh now stands at a pivotal moment, gained through long struggles, movements, sacrifices and bloodshed. In the wake of the recent mass uprising, he noted, the country has a renewed chance to rebuild itself.

Speaking at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office yesterday, he said the interim government led by Dr Muhammad Yunus has already formed several reform commissions, through which a reform charter has been endorsed.

According to him, conditions are finally in place for a free and fair national election.

BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed was also present.

Fakhrul added that the interim government has announced February 2026 as the election timeline and preparations are underway. He expressed optimism that citizens will use this opportunity to elect a truly representative parliament capable of establishing a democratic government.

Highlighting BNP’s experience to govern the state, he said the party is confident that, if entrusted with state responsibility again, it can build a genuinely democratic system and a stronger, more prosperous economy.

On Khaleda Zia’s health, Fakhrul said she remains seriously ill and under hospital care. He noted that people across the country are praying for her recovery and appealed for continued prayers so she may return to public life and contribute to the nation.
