‘Everyone must improve,’ Butler demands higher standards in tri-series
Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh women’s head coach Peter Butler has emphasised that performance and development, rather than reputation, will guide team selection ahead of the tri-nation series at the National Stadium in Dhaka.
At a press conference on Monday, Butler avoided discussing senior stars such as Sabina Khatun and Masura Parvin, insisting the focus must be on results.
“We are creating genuine competition within the squad. No one is selected by name anymore,” he said.
“Everyone—from staff to players—must improve. Even small progress is important.”
After two recent losses to Thailand, Bangladesh are eager to reset on home soil. The squad mixes U-17, U-20, and senior players, including veterans like Munki, Afeida, and Swapna. Butler is confident the team is ready after three weeks of intensive training in Chattogram.
“These matches are part of a long-term journey, but we expect positive results,” he added.
Bangladesh, ranked 104th, will face Malaysia (92nd) tomorrow, followed by Azerbaijan (74th) on 2 December. Azerbaijan and Malaysia clash on 29 November.
Captain Afeida Khandakar said, “We trained well and are confident to win both matches.”
Post-series, Bangladesh will prepare further with joint training and matches in Malaysia.
