Explosions heard as police defuse bomb-like objects near Motijheel Metro Station
Bangla Press Desk: Police have recovered and safely defused several bomb-like objects found beneath the Motijheel Metro Rail Station in the capital on Friday evening.
The Bomb Disposal Unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit defused at least two suspicious objects, with loud explosions heard during the controlled operation.
Confirming the incident to the media at around 8:15pm, Motijheel Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Abdus Salam said police received information shortly after 7:00pm that bomb-like objects had been placed beneath the metro station.Following the alert, local police and the CTTC bomb disposal team rushed to the scene and began the operation.
"So far, two bomb-like objects have been defused. The operation to neutralise additional suspicious objects is still ongoing," Abdus Salam said.
Police have cordoned off the entire area, while members of the law enforcement agencies are collecting evidence from the scene as part of the investigation.
