Fakhrul congratulates Mayer Dak’s Tuli on becoming nominee for Dutch rights award
Bangla Press Desk: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has extended his “heartfelt and warm” congratulations to Mayer Dak Coordinator Sanjida Islam Tulee on becoming one of the top ten candidates for the Netherlands government’s “Human Rights Tulip” award.
The Dutch government has selected ten nominees from across the world, and will hand over the main prize to one of them on Wednesday, marking the International Human Rights Day. The other nine contenders will get Dutch Embassy Tulip Award.
Tulee making it to the list of top ten finalists for the main prize is a matter of great pride for Bangladesh, Fakhrul said in his congratulatory message.
The Dutch government’s nomination is a unique and significant recognition of Tulee’s activities concerning human rights and the plights of families that saw members abducted by government agencies.
“I strongly believe the nomination would also draw global attention to the difficult struggles the families faced,” Fakhrul added.
Since 2008, the Dutch government has been handing over the “Human Rights Tulip” award every year on 10 December to honour and support the year’s top human rights activist or group.
The award constitutes a 50,000 euro grant, and a bronze statue in the shape of a tulip flower. It is aimed at funding the expansion of human rights activities of the winners.
