Fête de la Musique Brings France Together in Melodic Celebration Under Extreme Heat
Bangla Press Desk: Neither the sweltering heatwave sweeping across Europe nor global anxieties and economic pressures could dampen the spirit of the Fête de la Musique, as France celebrated the world-renowned music festival on Sunday (21 June).
The Bangladesh community in France marked the occasion with vibrant performances at three different locations. Rahul Ananda of the musical troupe 'Joler Gaan' performed at an event organized by SK Sound in Aubervilliers, while two other separate musical programmes were held in La Courneuve and Gare du Nord.
Despite the intense heat, thousands of people flocked to streets, parks, squares, restaurants, bars, and cafes across the country—including the capital, Paris—enjoying the festival from the afternoon until late at night, and in some areas, until dawn.
Started in France in 1982, the festival is now celebrated in over 120 countries worldwide. Held every year on the evening of 21 June—the longest day of the year—the event is recognized as a unique initiative to bring music to the masses, where both professional and amateur artists perform for free in open spaces.
The atmosphere was vibrant, featuring a diverse range of genres including jazz, rock, pop, classical, folk, rap, and electronic music. In many locations, volunteers were seen distributing free water and providing health-conscious guidance to the attendees.
Tourists from around the world also joined the festivities. Maria Garcia, a tourist from Spain, said, "The weather was very hot, but seeing the enthusiasm of the people made us forget that. The whole city seemed to be floating in the joy of music."
Canadian tourist David Martin remarked, "It was definitely hot, but there was no question of missing such a festival. The lively participation of the people fascinated me."
Yuki Tanaka, a tourist from Japan, added, "I thought there might be a low turnout due to the heat. But in reality, I saw that the joy of the festival overcame the adversity of the weather."
Observations at the festival sites showed a significant presence of both local residents and foreign tourists, who joined the celebrations with friends, family, or solo, drawn by the power of music.
Analysts believe that in the midst of various crises and uncertainties in the world, such events provide people with respite and joy, even if only for a short time. This year’s festival has proven that neither the intense heatwave nor global worries can suppress the human spirit and the desire to celebrate culture.
As the festival continued until dawn, it painted a unique picture of music, harmony, and human bonding. Through the resonance of melodies, France transformed into a massive open stage for one day, where the festive spirit of the people triumphed over the heatwave.
