Flood misery persists in Chattogram with more than 750,000 people marooned

Bangla Press Desk:  Despite reports that floodwaters in several Chattogram Upazilas—triggered by continuous rain and landslides—have been receding, the number of affected people has been increasing amid complaints of frequent and prolonged power cuts and mobile network failures.

The District Relief and Rehabilitation Office said 754,590 people from 188,648 families in 176 unions have been affected as of Friday afternoon.

Many places in the Satkania, Lohagara, Chandanaish, and Banshkhali Upazilas have been under water since Sunday.

At least 10 people died and 10 were injured over the period.

On Thursday, Chattogram Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mian said about 450,000 people had been trapped in the water and cancelled the leaves of his colleagues to help tackle the situation.
