Staff Reporter: Rabiul Karim Belal, Chairperson of the Executive Committee of FOBANA (Federation of Bangladeshi Associations in North America) and Executive Secretary Khaled Ahmed Rouf, in a joint statement, extended heartfelt greetings and congratulations to the American people, the Bangladeshi-American community, and all expatriates living in North America on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States.
In the joint statement, the two leaders said the 250th anniversary of American independence is not only a historic milestone for the United States, but also a proud moment to reflect on the ideals of democracy, freedom, human rights, the rule of law, and pluralism. They said this great nation has given millions of immigrants from around the world the opportunity to dream, work hard, and achieve success.
They said Bangladeshi-Americans continue to make important contributions in various fields, including the U.S. economy, education, healthcare, technology, business, culture, and public service. The contribution of the Bangladeshi community to America’s progress and prosperity is becoming increasingly visible and stronger.
The leaders further said FOBANA believes strength lies in diversity. They expressed hope for a society where people of different cultures, languages, and traditions can move forward together on the basis of mutual respect, compassion, and equal rights.
In the statement, they urged the new generation of Bangladeshi children living in North America to grow up as capable, humane, and responsible citizens by embracing the spirit of Bangladesh’s Liberation War, the Bangla language, culture, and heritage, as well as America’s constitutional values, civic responsibilities, and democratic ideals.
Finally, Rabiul Karim Belal and Khaled Ahmed Rouf wished continued peace, prosperity, and progress for the United States. They said, “On the 250th anniversary of American independence, we look forward to a stronger, more inclusive, and prosperous America, as well as a more united Bangladeshi-American community.”
The two leaders also called upon all culture-loving expatriates to attend the 40th FOBANA Convention, to be held during Labor Day weekend, September 4–6, at the Hilton Los Angeles in Universal City, California.
