Former navy chief Vice Admiral Sarwar Jahan passes away


Bangla Press Desk: Former Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral (retd) Sarwar Jahan Nizam passed away on Friday morning while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka. He was 73.
The Chief of Naval Staff, along with members of the Bangladesh Navy at all levels, has expressed deep sorrow at his demise. His funeral prayer will be held after Zohr prayers on Saturday at the mosque of the Naval Headquarters, after which he will be buried with full military honours at Banani Military Cemetery.
Born on 2 November 1952 in a respected Muslim family in Anwara upazila of Chattogram, Vice Admiral Nizam was commissioned in the Bangladesh Navy as a sub-lieutenant on 1 June 1973.
During his long and distinguished career, he served in various key positions. He took charge as the Chief of Naval Staff on 10 February 2007 and played a vital role in protecting the country’s sovereignty and advancing the navy’s modernisation with patriotism, professionalism, and capable leadership.
He made outstanding contributions to the development and modernisation of the Bangladesh Navy.
Vice Admiral Nizam is survived by his wife, daughter, and many admirers.
