Four family members die while rescuing goat from abandoned pit in Tangail
Bangla Press Desk: Four members of a family were killed after 'inhaling toxic gas' while attempting to rescue a goat from an abandoned toilet pit in Tangail's Madhupur upazila on Saturday morning.
The tragic incident occurred at around 8:30am in the Telki area of the upazila.
The identities of the victims could not be confirmed immediately. However, preliminary reports suggest that all four were members of the same family.
Madhupur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Fazlur Haque confirmed the incident.
According to the OC, a goat had fallen into an abandoned toilet pit, prompting one person to enter the pit in an attempt to rescue the animal. When he failed to emerge, several other family members entered the pit one after another to rescue him.
“At one stage, they were apparently affected by toxic gas inside the pit and died there,” the OC said.
Police and local residents rushed to the scene after being informed of the incident and carried out rescue operations.
The bodies were later recovered and legal procedures are underway, police said. Source: daily Sun
