Four Suspected Robbers Arrested With Guns, Cocktails in Hatirjheel
Bangla Press Desk: Four members of an organised robbery gang were arrested while allegedly preparing to rob a house near Hatirjheel in the capital on Tuesday, police said.
The arrestees were identified as Md Rakib, 32, Md Rashedul Howlader, 27, Md Zubayer Islam, 40, and Bijoy Sarker alias Defid, 27.
Police also recovered two foreign-made pistols, two magazines, five rounds of ammunition, a toy pistol, three machetes, five cocktails, a spike dagger and two identity cards of a film shooting unit from their possession.
DMP Additional Commissioner (Detective Branch) Shafiqul Islam disclosed the information at a briefing at the DMP Media Centre this afternoon.
He said the DB Gulshan Division received secret information that an organised gang was planning to rob a house near Hatirjheel.
A six-member gang was planning to steal gold and other valuables from the house, he said, adding that the gang members had conducted reconnaissance of the area the previous day as part of their preparation.
After placing the gang under intelligence surveillance, the DB gathered information about its members’ locations and movements.
Later, around 40 members of the DB Gulshan Division conducted a special operation and arrested four gang members around 12:45pm.
Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining two, Shafiqul said.
Initial investigation found that the arrestees have multiple cases filed against them with different police stations.
Further legal proceedings are underway.
