From BCS Cadre Officer to Home Minister: Salahuddin Ahmed’s Political Journey and His Family’s Path to Success

Their second son, Sayeed Yusuf Ahmed, studied accounting and finance at McGill University in Canada and has reportedly pursued a professional career in the corporate and financial sector.

The couple’s youngest daughter, Fariba Ahmed Raida, attended Scholastica in Dhaka before continuing her education at York University in Canada, where she completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree. The 2015 Disappearance and Discovery in Shillong

One of the most dramatic chapters in Salahuddin Ahmed’s life began on March 10, 2015, when he disappeared while staying in Uttara, Dhaka.

His family and the BNP alleged that men identifying themselves as members of law enforcement had taken him away. For roughly two months, his whereabouts remained unknown.

More than 60 days later, Salahuddin was found in Shillong, in the northeastern Indian state of Meghalaya. Indian authorities subsequently initiated proceedings against him for entering the country without valid travel documents.

How he traveled from Bangladesh to Shillong remained the subject of controversy. Salahuddin maintained that he had been abducted and transported across the border against his will.

An Indian court acquitted him of the illegal-entry charge in 2018. A higher court later upheld the decision, clearing an important legal obstacle to his return to Bangladesh.

Hasina Ahmed’s Journey to Shillong

After learning that her husband had been found, Hasina Ahmed obtained the necessary Indian visa and traveled from Dhaka to India in May 2015.

She flew first to Kolkata and then traveled via Guwahati before reaching Shillong, where she met her husband at Shillong Civil Hospital.

BNP representatives and other associates also traveled to Shillong during Salahuddin’s stay there.

Home After More Than Nine Years

After years of legal and administrative complications in India, Salahuddin Ahmed finally returned to Bangladesh in August 2024, more than nine years after his disappearance.
