Bangla Press Desk: The hanging body of Mariam Khatun, 19, second wife of Satkhira-4 lawmaker Gazi Nazrul Islam, was recovered from a flat at NAM Bhaban in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on Sunday evening.
Police said Mariam’s body was found hanging inside Flat No. 203 on the third floor of Building No. 5 of the government residential complex.
Officer-in-charge of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Monirul Islam confirmed the matter to the media.
Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner of Police Ibn Mizan said members of the Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) forensic team had been called to the scene.
Gazi Nazrul Islam was elected for a third consecutive term as a member of parliament from Satkhira-4 on the nomination of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
On july 20, a video showing the lawmaker in an intimate moment with a young woman went viral on social media. Gazi Nazrul later said that the woman in the video was his second wife, Mariam Khatun.
Following the incident, Jamaat-e-Islami expelled Gazi Nazrul Islam from the party on July 22 after finding evidence of “moral misconduct”.
