German Vice Minister arriving in Dhaka today
Bangla Press Desk: German Vice Minister Dr. Bärbel Kofler will arrive in Dhaka today (Sunday) for a three-day official visit, aimed at shaping the future of development cooperation between Bangladesh and Germany and conducting bilateral discussions between the two governments.
In a press release issued on Saturday evening (October 24), the German Embassy stated that Dr. Kofler will lead a delegation from Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Bangladesh is currently undergoing an economic transformation and preparing for its final graduation from the category of Least Developed Countries (LDCs). Against this backdrop, the discussions will focus on long-term resilience, economic adaptability, and sustainable growth.
As a long-standing development partner of Bangladesh, Germany seeks to further strengthen the bilateral partnership through these discussions.
The release noted that as Bangladesh transitions out of the LDC category and faces evolving development needs, these discussions will look beyond traditional aid frameworks to explore new areas of cooperation.
During her visit, Dr. Kofler will participate in political dialogues and inspect various development projects in Chattogram. While in Dhaka, she will also attend a ‘German Reunification Day’ event hosted by the German Embassy.
The event is expected to be attended by senior government officials from Bangladesh and Germany, representatives from civil society, members of the diplomatic corps, as well as figures from the cultural and media sectors.
‘German Reunification Day’ commemorates the historic reunification of East and West Germany in 1990, following decades of division during the Cold War.
The visit underscores Germany’s continued commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s sustainable development, the press release added.
