Gold hits record Tk2.09 lakh per bhori
New tariffs will come into effect on Thursday


Bangla Press Desk: The price of gold has reached an all-time high in the country, hitting over Tk2.09 lakh per bhori (11.664 grams).
Jewellers inflated the price of the precious yellow metal for the third consecutive day on Wednesday, following a hike in the price of pure gold in the local market.
In the latest development, they increased the price of gold by Tk6,905 to Tk2,09,100 per bhori.
The Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring of the Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS) made the decision at a meeting held on Wednesday.
Earlier, the price of gold reached a record of Tk2,02,195 per bhori.
As per the new decision, the price of 22-carat gold will now be Tk17,927 per gram, and 21-carat Tk17,112 per gram, read a press release signed by the committee chairman, Masudur Rahman.
The price of 18-carat gold has been fixed at Tk14,668 a gram, while that of traditional gold at Tk12,200 per gram.
New tariffs would come into effect on Thursday, read the release.
Meanwhile, prices of silver have also gone up.
The price of 22-carat silver is now Tk427 per gram, 21-carat Tk407, 18-carat Tk349, and traditional one is Tk262 per gram.
Buyers will also have to pay an additional 5% VAT set by the government, along with a minimum 6% making charge fixed by BAJUS. The making charge may vary depending on design and quality, the release added. This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
