Gold keeps breaking records, hits Tk2.17 lakh per bhori

Bangla Press Desk: The price of gold has reached an all-time high in the country, hitting over Tk2.17 lakh per bhori (11.664 grams).

Jewellers have inflated the price of the precious yellow metal by around Tk1,050 to Tk2,17,382 per bhori due to a hike in the price of pure gold in the local market.

The Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring of the Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS) made the decision at a meeting held on Sunday.

On 15 October, jewellers set the price of gold at Tk2,16,332 per bhori, breaking earlier records.

With the latest hike, the price of 22-carat gold will now be Tk18,637 per gram, and 21-carat Tk17,790 per gram, read a press release signed by the committee chairman, Masudur Rahman.

The price of 18-carat gold has been fixed at Tk15,248 a gram, while that of traditional gold at Tk12,695 per gram.

New tariffs would come into effect on Monday, read the release.

Prices of silver have remained unchanged.

The price of 22-carat silver is now Tk532 per gram, 21-carat Tk507, 18-carat Tk435, and traditional one is Tk326 per gram.

Buyers will also have to pay an additional 5% VAT set by the government, along with a minimum 6% making charge fixed by BAJUS. The making charge may vary depending on design and quality, the release added. This article was originally published on the Daily Sun.
