Goods worth Tk 254 crore seized in BGB operations in September
Bangla Press Desk: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods worth approximately Tk 254.21 crore during operations conducted across the country, including border areas, last September. Significant quantities of narcotics, weapons, and explosives were also recovered during this period.
A total of 218 individuals were detained on charges of involvement in smuggling.
This information was disclosed on Saturday in a press release signed by BGB Public Relations Officer Md. Shariful Islam. The notification states that the seized contraband items include: 3 kg 438 g of gold; 18,872 sarees; 3,808 three-piece sets/shirt pieces/shawls/blankets; 2,528 ready-made garments; 1,318 meters of fabric; 2,647 pieces of imitation jewelry; 309,246 cosmetic items; 287,809 pieces of fireworks; 1,912 cubic feet of timber; 140,217 kg of coal; 5,036 cubic feet of stone; 3,611 kg of tea leaves; 5,035 kg of betel nuts; 713 mobile phones; 6,293 mobile display units; 9,407 mobile phone spare parts; 51,550 Gillette blades; 13,435 pairs of eyeglasses; 433,260 packets of chocolate; 163 packets of various seeds; 1,605 kg of Bangladeshi jute; 46,812 kg of cumin seeds; 20,578 kg of garlic; 8,357 kg of sugar; 20,323 kg of fertilizer; 1,540,008 shrimp fry; 75 kg of 'current' nets (fine-mesh gill nets); 1,359 liters of edible oil; 2,528 ready-made garments; 89,600 electrical/medical items; 1,073 packets of pesticides; 700,339 pieces of various medicines; 16 pieces of touchstone/sandstone; 6 trucks/covered vans; 8 pickup trucks; 3 private cars/microbuses; 103 CNGs/easy-bikes/auto-rickshaws/pushcarts; 74 motorcycles; 31 bicycles/vans; and 69 boats. The recovered weapons include two machine guns (MGs), three rifles, six domestic and foreign-made pistols, two other weapons, three magazines, 64 rounds of ammunition, 52 kg of sulfur (explosive material), and 4 kg of other explosives.
Additionally, a large quantity of narcotics was seized during BGB operations last month. The seized narcotics and intoxicants include 4,694,605 Yaba pills, 58 grams of heroin, 1,418 bottles of Phensedyl, 11,925 bottles of foreign liquor, 165.25 liters of locally produced liquor (Bangla Mad), 716 cans of beer, 1,715 kg of cannabis, 4,989 bottles of Escuf syrup, 8,524 bottles of various other syrups, 2,018 Anegra/Sanegra tablets, 183,370 packets of bidis and cigarettes, and 215,586 tablets of various other intoxicants.
A BGB press release further stated that 218 individuals were detained on charges of involvement in drug trafficking and other smuggling activities across the border. Furthermore, 58 Bangladeshi nationals, seven Indian nationals, and 201 Myanmar nationals were detained for illegally crossing the border. Legal action has been taken against the detained individuals.
