Government busy with character assassination of the opposition: Jamaat Ameer
BanglaPress Desk: Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has remarked that instead of alleviating public suffering and curbing criminal activities, the government is preoccupied with character assassination of the opposition.
He made this observation in a post on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday night (October 20).
In the post, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman claimed that the Detective Branch (DB) of the police arrested 84 men and women from a house owned by a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Bangladesh Police, on charges of engaging in "anti-social" activities. He further noted that a large quantity of narcotics was also recovered from the premises. The Jamaat Ameer remarked that this incident highlights the deteriorating state of law and order in the country.
He added that anti-social and unlawful activities—including extortion, mugging, looting, and robbery—have increased across various parts of the nation. He further commented that the occurrence of such an incident at the residence of a high-ranking police official has sparked concern and panic among the public.
Pointing to the rising prices of essential commodities and the ongoing gas and electricity crises, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated that the government is focused on character assassination of the opposition rather than addressing these public hardships or suppressing criminal acts. Under these circumstances, he called upon the youth to rise up once again.
