Govt maintaining strict control over fuel prices: Mahdi Amin

Bangla Press Desk:  Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin has said that the government has kept fuel prices under “maximum control” so far, despite global increases in fuel costs.

He made the remarks on Saturday at a press briefing at the Prime Minister’s Office marking the completion of two months of the current government.Mahdi Amin said the government has increased fuel subsidies and taken initiatives to procure fuel from alternative sources.

“Priority is being given to fuel supply through bilateral and multilateral diplomacy, along with special emphasis on international negotiations. A ‘fuel card’ project has also been introduced for fuel management,” he added.

The adviser said 35 megawatts of electricity have been added to the national grid during this period. He noted that the government has set a target to generate 10,000 megawatts of electricity by 2030 through renewable energy, particularly solar power.

He further said, “Controlling commodity prices remains a top priority for the government. Despite adverse global and domestic economic conditions, prices were kept relatively stable during Ramadan compared to previous years.”

He added that imports of food and essential commodities have continued despite liquidity constraints, helping avoid supply disruptions in the domestic market and keeping inflation under control. Source: daily Sun
