Govt to verify freedom fighters’ list to preserve accurate history

Bangla Press Desk:   The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has decided to conduct a review and verification of the list of freedom fighters and take steps to preserve the accurate history of the Liberation War.

The decision was made on Sunday at an exchange meeting held at the ministry’s conference room with members of the National Freedom Fighters Council, according to a press release issued by the ministry.The release stated that several important decisions were adopted during the meeting to verify the list of genuine freedom fighters and ensure the preservation of authentic historical records.

Liberation War Affairs Minister Hafiz Uddin Ahmed attended the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the Great Liberation War remains the fundamental basis of Bangladesh’s independence and statehood.

He emphasised that it would not be appropriate to equate the Liberation War with other movements and struggles.

Expressing concern over what he described as the political misuse of the spirit of the Liberation War, the minister said that prolonged misuse of its history and ideals has deprived the younger generation of learning the true narrative.He noted that many in the new generation remain unaware of the immense sacrifices and endurance demonstrated by the freedom fighters in achieving the country’s independence.

“We must remember that the Liberation War is the core foundation of the birth of this state,” he added.

The meeting was also attended by the ministry’s Secretary Israt Chowdhury, members of the council, and other senior officials of the ministry.
