Govt vows to eliminate terrorism from Jangal Salimpur
Bangla Press Desk: Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Sunday declared that Jangal Salimpur in Sitakunda and its surrounding areas would be brought fully under state control and cleared of terrorist activities, according to local media reports.
Speaking to reporters during a visit to the area, he said Jangal Salimpur would no longer serve as a haven for isolated militant groups. He added that the government had also received information about the presence of terrorists in the nearby hilly areas of Betua and Cha Bagan, and operations would be extended there as well.
The minister said coordinated joint drives would be conducted nationwide to combat drugs, terrorism, gambling and extortion, identifying these as key law-and-order challenges.
He also noted that existing gambling laws are inadequate to address modern online gambling and said the government would seek to introduce a new law or amendments in the next parliamentary session. Plans are also underway to amend narcotics laws and establish special tribunals for the speedy disposal of drug-related cases.
