Govt Vows to Protect New Generation From Drug Abuse: Mir Helal
Bangla Press Desk: State Minister for Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin has said the government is committed to protecting the new generation from drug abuse and engaging them in sports to keep them on the right path.
He made the remarks as chief guest at the prize-giving ceremony of the Shaheed Zia and Begum Khaleda Zia Memorial Inter-School Football Tournament-2026 at Chattogram District Stadium on Saturday evening.
The state minister also stressed the importance of spectators in promoting sports, saying greater public participation is essential to developing the country's sports sector.
Railway Station Colony High School emerged champion in the inaugural tournament, defeating Maizpara Mahmudunnabi Chowdhury High School of Patenga 1-0 in the final.
The closing and prize-giving ceremony was presided over by tournament committee chairman and Chattogram City BNP convener MP Ershad Ullah. Tournament committee chief coordinator and city BNP member secretary Nazrimur Rahman supervised the event.
Chattogram-9 MP Mohammad Abu Sufian, Bangladesh Cricket Board Director Israfil Khosru, tournament organising committee convener Niaz Mohammad Khan and city BNP joint convener and tournament media committee convener Shawkat Azam Khaja attended as special guests.
The guests handed over trophies and prize money of Tk2 lakh to the champions, Tk1 lakh to the runners-up and Tk50,000 to the third-place team.
