Bangla Press Desk: A Dhaka court on Tuesday sent seven more accused to jail in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act over a cocktail explosion and alleged acts of sabotage in the capital’s Gulshan area.
The accused are Mirza Mokhlesur Rahman, 72, Mirza Arzu, 42, Md Shahidul Islam, 40, Md Mosharraf Hossain, 60, Moktar Hossain, 44, Md Anwar Hossain Ana, 46, and Bayzid Islam, 56.Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah passed the order, said prosecution department sub-inspector Moktar Hossain.
Earlier, Gulshan Police Station SI Md Ruhul Amin, also the investigation officer of the case, produced the accused before the court and sought to show them arrested in the case.
All of the accused are activists and leaders of different levels of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations. They were arrested on 14 September.
The detention petition said the accused had admitted their involvement during interrogation and that the allegations in the case had been corroborated in the preliminary investigation.
The application said, adding that their detention in jail was necessary until completion of the investigation adding that separate remand petitions would be submitted for intensive interrogation of the accused.Earlier on Saturday, a court sent 24 accused to remand in the case. Later on Sunday, nine more accused were shown arrested and sent to jail, while another nine were sent to jail on Monday.
According to the case statement, several hundred leaders and activists of the suspended Awami League and the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League attempted to bring out a procession from in front of Bhola Mosque in Gulshan-1 at around 11:45am on Friday.
They allegedly chanted anti-government slogans and exploded two cocktails when police tried to disperse them. Police fired two rounds of rubber bullets and recovered five cocktails from the spot.
