Hadi Murder: Prime accused Faisal’s associate Rubel on fresh 3-day remand
Bangla Press Desk: A Dhaka court on Wednesday granted a fresh three-day remand for Md Rubel Ahmed, a close associate of shooter Faisal Karim Masud, in the murder case of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Shaheed Sharif Osman Bin Hadi.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order after Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdul Qadir Bhuiyan sought a seven-day remand for him.
Earlier in the day, Rubel was produced before the court after the completion of his six-day remand. On the night of 21 January, Rubel was arrested from his residence in the Keraniganj area of the capital.
On 12 December last year, Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, an independent candidate from the Dhaka-8 constituency, was shot in Dhaka’s Paltan area. He died on 18 December while receiving treatment in Singapore.
On 14 December, Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inqilab Moncho, filed an attempted murder case with Paltan Model Police Station over the incident which later turned into a murder case after the death of Hadi.
On 6 January, DB Inspector Faisal Ahmed, the investigation officer of the case, submitted a chargesheet against 17 accused, including Faisal Karim Masud alias Daud, and his associate Alamgir Hossain.
However, on 15 January, the plaintiff, Inqilab Moncho member secretary Abdullah Al Jaber, filed a no-confidence (naraji) petition stating that the chargesheet skipped the main planners behind the killing.
Subsequently, the court directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the case.
