Hannan Masud gets death threats, general diary filed
Bangla Press Desk: Abdul Hannan Masud, senior joint chief coordinator of National Citizen Party (NCP) and a candidate for Noakhali-6 (Hatiya) constituency, has allegedly received death threats.
Several screenshots related to the threats have been circulated on social media on Thursday night.
According to reports, the screenshots were posted from the Facebook accounts of Israat Raihan Ami, son of former chairman of Char Ishwar Union Abdul Halim Azad, and his follower Rupak Nandi.
Israat Raihan Ami wrote in his Facebook page, “Some leaders are allegedly trying to arrest Abdul Halim Azad. Whether it’s Hannan or Tanvir or whoever the leader is, I swear by God, movement in the northern region will become forbidden. Our leaders and activists will deal with them directly. We are still being patient.”
On the other hand, Rupak Nandi wrote on his Facebook account, “Hannan, don’t play with fire—you’ll regret it later. Those who truly know Chairman Abdul Halim Azad will never spare you. We are still calm. If my leader is arrested, I will declare you banned in the northern region.”
Attempts were made to contact former Char Ishwar Union chairman Abdul Halim Azad and his son Israat Raihan Ami by mobile phone to obtain their statements, but their phones were found switched off. It was also not possible to contact the accused Rupak Nandi.
Abdul Hannan Masud said, “Such death threats and acts of intimidation are extremely condemnable and alarming. I have already informed the law enforcement agencies about the matter. I hope that through a proper investigation, those involved will be quickly identified and strict legal action will be taken against them.”
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hatiya Police Station Md Saiful Alam said, “The matter has come to our attention. We have reviewed the screenshots. A general diary (GD) is being filed in connection with the incident. Necessary legal action will be taken after investigation.”
