Helicopter crashes in Saudi Arabia; 2 killed
Bangla Press Desk: An AH-6i reconnaissance military helicopter crashed in the Najran region of southwestern Saudi Arabia due to a technical malfunction, resulting in the deaths of its two crew members. This was confirmed on Sunday in an official statement by Major General Turki al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Saudi-led military coalition.
The statement noted that the helicopter crashed in an area under the jurisdiction of the Saudi Ministry of National Guard. The border region of Najran has become a flashpoint due to an escalation in conflict between the Iran-backed Houthi rebels and the Saudi-led coalition. The conflict in Yemen is increasingly being viewed as an additional front in the ongoing confrontation between the United States and Iran.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Yahya Sarea, a military spokesperson for the Houthi forces in Yemen, claimed on the social media platform X that they had shot down a Saudi Apache helicopter involved in an attack on a Houthi base near the border.
However, the Saudi-led coalition spokesperson, Al-Maliki, dismissed the Houthi spokesperson's claim as entirely baseless. On Sunday, he posted a series of images of Apache helicopters on X, commenting, "You claim to have shot it down, yet it will soon be back on the battlefield."
