Henry holds nerve as Kiwis clinch tri-nation series title
Bangla Press Desk:  Matt Henry delivered a brilliant final over to guide New Zealand to a thrilling three-run win over South Africa in the T20 Tri-Series final at Harare Sports Club on Saturday. Defending 180, New Zealand restricted South Africa to 177 for six, with Henry conceding just three runs in the last over. South Africa needed seven off the final six balls with six wickets in hand, but two spectacular outfield catches from Michael Bracewell and Daryl Mitchell turned the game. Dewald Brevis looked set to seal the win for South Africa with a blistering 31 off 16 balls, but his powerful shot toward square leg was brilliantly caught by Bracewell, who juggled the ball while stepping over the boundary before completing the dismissal in play. Earlier, New Zealand posted 180 for five after being sent in to bat, with Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra scoring 47 each. In reply, South African teenager Lhuan-dre Pretorius struck 51 off 35 balls to keep his team on course before late drama derailed the chase.
Mitchell also pulled off a diving catch at long-off to remove George Linde, who was threatening to take the game away from the Kiwis. Henry, who finished with 2-19 in three overs, kept his cool to deny Senuran Muthusamy on the final delivery. “It was a game of millimetres,” said South Africa captain Rassie van der Dussen. “For our young guys to come this close, we’ll take a lot from it.” Henry praised his team’s fighting spirit: “We’ve been playing some really good cricket. Credit to the attitude of the group—we stayed in the fight and knew wickets could change the game.” Zimbabwe, the third team in the series, lost all four of their group matches.  This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
