Bangla Press Desk: Islami Andolon Bangladesh (IAB) and Khelafat Majlish have announced demonstrations on three days this month to press home their demands of July Charter implementation before the general elections, and inclusion of proportionate representation (PR) system during the polls.
The demonstrations were announced separately but almost at the same time on Monday. The programmes and demands mirror those announced by Jamaat-e-Islami, signaling a coordinated effort to push back against BNP’s opposition to the demands.
At the IAB press conference, party chief Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim Charmonai alleged that authorities are focusing only on holding elections at the earliest, while ignoring justice for Awami League’s crimes and state reform measures, which were envisioned by the victims of last year’s uprising.
Pir Charmonai claimed that holding elections under the pre-existing state framework would bring back the days of mass corruption and power abuse. He warned of tougher demonstrations from next month, if the July Charter is not implemented to realise state reform goals.
