‘If the government fails, the people will respond through their votes’
BanglaPress Desk: Chief Whip of the National Parliament, Nurul Islam Moni, has stated that if the government fails to fulfill its responsibilities, the people will provide an answer through their votes.
He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the Barishal Divisional Conference-2026 of 'Zia Mancha'—held at the Barishal Shilpakala Academy auditorium under the theme "We will work, we will build the nation; Bangladesh comes first." The Chief Whip noted that the public will cast their votes in the next election based on an evaluation of the government's performance over its five-year term. Therefore, rather than attempting to destabilize the government through frequent agitations, it would be better to wait. He pointed out that the government began its tenure with a fragile economy, exacerbated by the siphoning off of 30 lakh crore taka. Meanwhile, various programs initiated by the opposition—including 'long marches'—are hindering efforts toward national reconstruction. Real change in the country's situation cannot be achieved through such long marches.
Regarding the power crisis, he mentioned that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has granted a three-year tax exemption on the import of solar power equipment to address the electricity shortage. If this opportunity is effectively utilized, the power deficit could be resolved within a year.
He further stated that the BNP led the movement to topple the fascist government, having endured 17 long years of oppression, persecution, and adversity.
The current government has taken on the responsibility of the nation amidst a fragile economy and various crises, and is now working toward national reconstruction. Initiatives have been launched to improve the socio-economic conditions of marginalized populations through government support programs, such as the 'Family Card' and 'Farmer Card.'
The conference was attended by BNP leaders, activists, and media personnel from the Barishal metropolitan area and various districts within the division.
