Bangla Press Desk: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir directed field-level police officers to take strict legal action against drug traders, terrorists and extortionists, saying there is no scope to consider political identity in dealing with criminals.
“The only identity of a criminal is that of a criminal,” he said.
The IGP gave the directives at the monthly crime review meeting for August 2026 held at Police Headquarters on Tuesday.
He also instructed them to take appropriate legal action against juvenile offenders.
Reiterating the police’s “zero tolerance” policy against drugs, he directed officers to take strict measures to prevent drug-related activities and stressed ensuring public participation through community policing.
He also directed field-level officers to ensure overall security for a peaceful, safe and trouble-free celebration of the upcoming Durga Puja and take measures to prevent rumours and misinformation.
Additional IGP (Crime and Operations) Md Sayedur Rahman presided over the meeting.
Sayedur Rahman directed officers to collect information about juvenile gangs and identify whether any influential people are behind them so that action can be taken.
He also directed every police unit to prepare its own security plan for the upcoming Durga Puja, warning that misinformation could be spread through social media ahead of the festival.
He instructed police personnel to properly use body-worn cameras while performing their duties.
Sayedur Rahman also stressed effective use of community policing in maintaining law and order and controlling crime, and called upon police personnel to maintain professionalism in discharging their duties.
Metropolitan police commissioners, range DIGs and superintendents of police joined the meeting virtually.
DIG (Crime Management) Mohammad Abu Sufian and concerned officials were present.
The meeting reviewed the overall crime situation in August 2026, including major incidents during the month.
Detailed discussions were also held on robbery, dacoity, murder, rape, attacks on police and abduction cases, as well as pending arrest warrants, investigation and trial outcomes and conviction rates.
