India has never seen such a ‘coward’ as Modi: Abhijit to Deep

Bangla Press Desk: The top leaders of the youth-led ‘Cockroach’ movement—who were detained after calling for major protests against the Election Commission of India—have been released.
Shortly after being released on bail by a court on Sunday, Abhijit Dipke, the movement's key figurehead and founder of the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP), sharply criticized Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a message posted on social media, Dipke stated that Narendra Modi is a major disgrace to the country as Prime Minister. He remarked that the nation had never before witnessed such a coward and tyrannical ruler.
Dipke and other top leaders were taken into police custody last Saturday—even before they could disembark from their flight from Mumbai—as the nationwide movement regarding the voter list revision process was gaining momentum.
Ratna Singh, the chief lawyer for the CJP, confirmed that Dipke and the other leaders were released by the Executive Magistrate's court. The court granted them bail on the condition that they do not disturb the peace or public order for the next year. Prominent social activist and social media influencer Dhruv Rathee, who had been detained from his home around the same time, was also released.
Earlier on Saturday, authorities had established an unprecedented security cordon across the capital, New Delhi, to thwart a previously announced massive public gathering at the historic Jantar Mantar. The CJP alleged that thousands of protesters were detained from the streets. This rally was intended to be the culmination of a movement that had been ongoing for several weeks, demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner.
It is worth noting that the Indian government claims the voter list revision was conducted to remove duplicate entries, false information, and the names of deceased individuals. However, media reports indicate that approximately 133 million (13.3 crore) names were dropped from the electoral rolls during this process. Opposition parties and critics allege that minorities—particularly Muslims—were excluded for politically motivated reasons, a move expected to give the ruling BJP an electoral advantage.
A hearing is scheduled at the Supreme Court of India regarding the decision to suspend metro and train services in Delhi in response to this movement. The UN human rights body has already called for the immediate release of all detained protesters. Rahul Gandhi, a leader of the main opposition Congress party, and the Janata Party have vowed to continue the movement at any cost. Source: TRT World.
