India warns visa applicants over scam calls

Bangla Press Desk:   The Indian High Commission in Dhaka has warned of scammers posing as mission officials to trick visa applicants.

It issued the advisory in a Facebook post on Thursday, saying it had received complaints of fraudsters contacting individuals while claiming to represent the High Commission and falsely promising visas or other consular services in exchange for money.

"No official of the High Commission will ever contact you via phone, WhatsApp, social media or email offering to process a visa or demanding money.

"All visa applications are processed strictly following the prescribed procedure."

Advising people on what to do if they receive such a call, message or offer, the mission said: "Do not make any payment. Do not share your personal or financial information."

The advisory also urged people to promptly report such incidents to the Indian High Commission via email ([email protected]), including the caller's phone number, screenshots or other details.

"Please stay vigilant and help spread awareness to protect others from such fraudulent activities," the mission said.
