Jamaat condemns attack on Osman Hadi

Bangla Press Desk:   Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has expressed deep concern and strong condemnation over the armed attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, an independent candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency and spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha.

The party’s Secretary General and former member of parliament, Mia Golam Parwar, issued an official statement on 12 December addressing the incident, said a press release.In the statement, Parwar said he was “deeply concerned and outraged” by the attack on Osman Hadi.

He noted that the shooting—carried out openly just a day after the election schedule was announced—raises serious questions about the security situation during the election period.

“This appears to be a clear attempt to instill fear,” he added.

Calling for immediate action, Parwar urged law enforcement agencies to identify and arrest those responsible without delay, thoroughly review CCTV footage of the incident, and ensure effective security measures for all candidates, political activists, and the general public ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

He also called on the government to investigate whether the attack was part of a “well-planned conspiracy by defeated fascist forces to sabotage the election.”

Parwar further noted that on 13 November, Osman Hadi had posted on social media claiming he had received death threats from 30 foreign phone numbers, including threats of sexual violence against his mother, sister, and wife.

“It is evident to the nation that the administration has failed to ensure his security,” Parwar said, calling it a grave negligence in protecting the lives and property of citizens.

He condemned what he described as the authorities’ failure to take responsibility.

“The barbaric attack disrupts the country’s peaceful political environment and democratic process,” Parwar said.

He urged the government and authorities to treat the incident with utmost seriousness, arrest the perpetrators swiftly, and ensure exemplary punishment under the law.

He also wished Sharif Osman Hadi a quick recovery and expressed sympathy for his family and colleagues.
