Jamaat pledges Tk1 lakh for each Mirpur fire victim families

Bangla Press Desk: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has announced that the party will provide Tk1 lakh in financial assistance to each family of those killed in the Mirpur fire that claimed at least 16 lives.

He announced this during his visit to the fire-ravaged site in Mirpur's Rupnagar area Tuesday night.

Arriving at the scene around 10:07pm, the party chief inspected the burnt buildings of the garment factory and adjacent chemical warehouse before speaking to journalists.

During his briefing, Shafiqur urged the government to carry out a fair and transparent investigation into how the fire broke out.

He also called for legal action against anyone found responsible of negligence or mismanagement.

Shafiqur further expressed deep sympathy for the victims' families, prayed for the salvation of the departed souls, and thanked the firefighters and rescuers for their prompt response in containing the blaze.

The Jamaat ameer left the scene at around 10:25pm, according to witnesses.

As per latest information from the spot around 10:40pm, the Fire Service and Civil Defence were trying to douse the fire at the chemical warehouse.
