Jamaat submits over 100 videos to EC, calls for polling halt at some centres

Bangla Press Desk:   A delegation from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and the 11-party alliance approached the Election Commission on Thursday, alleging irregularities, harassment of polling agents, and attacks on candidates and their convoys during the 13th National Parliamentary Election and Referendum on the July National Charter.

The party submitted over 100 video clips and documents to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) at the EC headquarters in Agargaon, urging the suspension of voting at disputed centres.

Jamaat lawyer Moazzem Hossain Helal said polling agents were expelled from at least 30 centres in Cumilla-8 (Barura). Their candidate, veteran educationist Helal Uddin Shafiqul Alam, formally requested voting suspension, but no action was taken. Similar complaints were reported from Tangail-2, Narsingdi-4, Noakhali-6, Jhalokathi, Patharghata, Patuakhali-Mirzaganj, and Shariatpur.Helal alleged forced ballot stamping and attacks on convoys.

Mujibur Rahman Bhuiyan Manju, member secretary of Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party), condemned the assaults, calling them a deliberate attempt to disrupt a fair election.

The CEC and commissioners reportedly assured that urgent measures would be taken.Source: daily Sun
