Jamaat won’t force women to wear burqa if in power: Shafiqur
Bangla Press Desk: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has said that if his party comes to power, women will not be forced to wear the burqa.
He added that fears are often spread claiming that Jamaat would compel women to wear the burqa if it forms a government, but such claims are baseless.
Shafiqur made these remarks on Tuesday night (25 Nov) while addressing a citizens’ gathering as the chief guest at Ruposhi Pro-Active Village Road in Mirpur, Dhaka.
The event was organised by the Dhaka North Metropolitan Professional Council of Jamaat-e-Islami.
During the event, Shafiqur said that women will take part in nation-building based on their qualifications and abilities.
He added that women currently lack social safety and dignity, and that Jamaat would ensure their honor and rights if elected to power.
Calling on citizens to vote, the Jamaat chief said that voting should reflect the conscience of the people.
He added that Jamaat would congratulate whoever wins through a fair election, and expressed hope that others would do the same if Jamaat wins.
